FAQ
Questions before you begin.
Still wondering about something? Ask on your free consultation. There are no silly questions.
What can I expect in the first session?
Think of it as a get-to-know-you conversation, not an interrogation. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping for, and what feels most important, at a pace that feels comfortable. You can share a lot, a little, or simply say, “I don’t know where to start.”
Do I need a clear goal before starting?
Not at all. Some people come with a specific goal; others just sense that something isn’t working. Both are more than enough to begin.
Do you work with trauma?
Yes. Trauma-informed, body-aware and relationship-centered care for emotional, physical, sexual, medical, developmental and relational trauma, with choice and safety at the center.
Are you LGBTQIA+, polyamory and kink/BDSM affirming?
Absolutely. This is an affirming, non-judgmental space for all gender identities, sexual orientations and relationship structures, including consensual non-monogamy and kink/BDSM communities.
Do you work with couples and families?
Yes, including chosen families and non-traditional family structures.
How long are sessions, and how often?
Sessions are typically 50 minutes. Most people start weekly, and we adjust to your needs, schedule and goals. Extended 110-minute sessions are available.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
Both: telehealth for clients throughout Florida, and in person in Miami.
Do you accept insurance?
Debbie currently offers self-pay and sliding scale, and is happy to talk through rates and payment options on your consultation.
What does Registered Intern (RMFTI) mean?
Debbie has completed her graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is registered with the State of Florida as an intern. She is gaining supervised clinical hours toward full licensure, under the supervision of a Florida Board-qualified supervisor. She is not yet independently licensed as an LMFT.
